I was looking at this setup too. There's another one that involves barbell weights, and works about as good, although is more unwieldy to handle.

I want to get one built before July. I'm heading to a Jeep rally in Silverton Colorado, and would like to get video as well as stills this time. I don't do video now as I hate the typical wobbling, swinging, makes-you-nauseated-to-watch videos like you typically see on youtube. The terrain is too extreme there to mess with tripods. (I was there in 2009) A steady cam setup would make for worthy Jeep trail videos.
