Lens Cap Holder?
« on: July 06, 2012, 01:33:22 AM »
Morning DIY experts  ;)

I use a standard strap and every time I take the lens cap off I end up either sticking it in my pocket or leaving it on a nearby surface. Has anyone come up with a clever way of attaching a lens cap to the camera body or the strap when not fixed to the front of the camera?

Hi Chris

Have a look at these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Keepers-Holders-CAMERA-D40-PENTAX/dp/B0032UIGF6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1341563042&sr=8-2

Cheap, cheerful and effective. The ones above are on the UK Amazon site but are widely available.

HTH  :)

I take the lens cap off and then put the hood on.  The cap just stays in my pocket till I'm done shooting.  First off, the dangling cap annoys the crap out of me.  Putting the cap on and off wastes time and can cause you to miss a shot.

I would agree with this totally!  :)

Also agree.  I don't want the cap dangling from my lens.

I just stick the cap in my pocket.  I've only lost one cap, and they cost a whole $4 to replace?  I'm cool with losing one every couple of years.

That's also why I have an extra cap for every lens in my bag.

I also always stick the lens cap in my back pocket. I have not got any of the straps that I linked to and was purely answering the question that was asked!  ;)

you can also try Capbuckle by Belleks. It attaches to your camera strap.

I have to admit Lisa,  that is pretty cool.   If a person really sticks with one or 2 lens for a long shoot, that is the answer.
I tend to switch out too much and have just found it faster to throw the cap in my pocket though.  I started that after making the mistake of setting a cap on some horizontal surface but later forgetting WHERE that horizontal surface was. (yea, old age sucks)
Take your camera with you dammit. You can't take your next "best photo" if your camera is sitting at home in the bag, now can you?

That's what I do too, Doodle.  Sounds like we had the same "learning experiences" before figuring out that it's best to put it in your pocket!  One drawback to doing what we do is the lint/dust/sand etc. that tends to accumulate in pockets.

Exactly.  Mine visits the inside of my pocket until I am finished shooting.   8)

From the site that Lisa linked us to:
Quote
The average photographer loses 3 to 5 camera lens caps per year – don’t lose another lens cap with the Capbuckle!
I am thinking I am not average. I have lost two total in the last few years. Anyway, with that said, I really like that idea that Lisa linked us to and I think I might order one of them. Well, I think I would need two of them because I don't use the same strap all the time.

No real use to me because I swapped from a neck strap to a hand strap recently and love it! No more flappy bits when I am shooting on a tripod. :)
