ML, 50mbps & overheating
« on: March 17, 2013, 09:57:10 AM »
Hi gang im currently thinking of installing ML on my 550D, which I use for video. mainly I'm wanting to be able to record at 50mbps but I am worried about overheating as the 550D when run for an hour or so will overheat and eventually shut itself off.

have any of you experience in running the 550D at such a high bitrate? or do you have any novel ways of cooling your cameras? ive seen some modded canon's used in astrophotography where they install a heatsink but i think something like a stick on fan would probably suffice in this situation.

Isn't that what the 550D records at without ML?

No i think without ml the 550 records at about 20-30mbps. One of the reasons some shy away from dslrs for broadcast work.

I disagree. This is a screenshot from mediainfo with one of my videos from my t2i.

that's good to know. is that the average bitrate? if so that's not too far off the minimum requirements some broadcasters set.

Well if you look at the bitrate in VLC it hovers between 46000-49000 so I'd say that is the minimum bitrate in the screenshot I posted. But it's close to 50mbps, which was your initial goal.

brilliant. i've gone ahead and installed ML so just trying to learn it at the moment. i know there is a bit rate multiplier on there so may just need a tiny tweak to keep it over 50mbit
