Hello From The Mitten AKA Michigan
« on: March 20, 2016, 05:39:55 AM »
Hello Hello -

Just purchased a slightly used 550D kit (EFS 18-55 / EFS 55-250, charger, 2 batteries, cables, bag, and manual.  no card).  Got a great deal on it $150.

Been wanting to get back into photography and figured this could be a great camera to do it with.  Also planning to shoot video and it also seems like this is great for that.

Really happy this forum exits.

Thanks and happy snapping.

Well, Hello!

I have to confess that many of the members here have moved on to form a Facebook group (which you're welcome to join of course!) and also, over the years some regulars have up-graded their equipment, but still recall their T2i/550D days. However, there are several stalwarts that still prefer this forum, and we're still here!

Video with the T2i is 'interesting'. It's certainly capable - I believe that an episode of "House" was filmed entirely on 500D's; but there is a caveat... the focus doesn't update as the movie shoots. We somewhat get used to 'camcorders' automatically adjusting the focus in real time to maximise the sharpness; some of them are really good at it. However, the T2i you will have to set up before the shot, to decide where you want the focus to be, and if you want to change it in the shoot, you'll have to do it by hand. That actually means it's better for proper studio shots where you need the focus to stay put on your subject, but it also means that if you're chasing your kid around the yard with a ball game, it's not going to work well for you...

That was a score for $150!!!

If you get into video search for Magic Lantern on this forum and on the web.

Hello Hello back atcha!
I think you'll find a lot of information on this page that will help you get back in to shooting (legally!) again.
While I have moved on to a different body (but still a Canon), I took many a great shot (ok, they were great to me anyhow) with my t2i.  LOVED that camera.
Post some results if you get a chance!
Also, AndyCivil is correct that many of our people are also on Facebook and it allows a more immediate feedback that seems to appeal to most everyone. Feel free to join if you are interested in Photography.
Cheers!
Take your camera with you dammit. You can't take your next "best photo" if your camera is sitting at home in the bag, now can you?
