Good deals online? ? ? (for t2i camera)
« on: May 10, 2011, 09:30:00 AM »
Can anyone recommend me a good place to buy the rebel t2i/550D online? I am happy to buy just the body or with a lens kit, as long as it is a good deal. (I am based in Australia)

This isn't just a one off post, where i'll be gone when someone replies... this looks like a cool forum and will likely become active once i get my camera :)

I've been looking at this one http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/p_58050_Canon_EOS_550DKISSx4_Kit_1855mm_55250mm_DSLR_Camera

With the body, 18-55mm and the 55-250mm for a total of $1000 usd after shipping. That seems to be a decent deal in my opinion, but it is branded as a the kissx4. I know it's petty, but I would rather a 550D/t2i branded one. (I've heard a lot of people say that they are exactly the same as the other two, but then i've heard a couple of people say the build quality is different.) Of course those couple of people have put doubts in my head. Can anyone alleviate my doubts and fears?  :)

Anyway, any good sites/deals would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Chris

EDIT: I am in the UK for the next couple of weeks, so if there are any stores that have good deals that anyone knows of that'd be great :)

B&H is the only place to shop for photo equipment. End of story. (as long as you're in the US... see below...)

Just noticed you said your is AUS... (it's monday, gimme a break... :) )

From what i've heard around the web, you're going to be paying a bit more than any price you'll see listed for US/UK buyers...  You could buy in the UK, but that will more than likely mean your warranty won't be honored by Canon back in AUS... So it would be a gamble, which is up to you to decide if it's worth it. Also don't know what kind of customs you may have to deal with...

(eta extra thoughts and stuff)

You could take a look in Jessops while you're in the UK, but honestly, I wouldn't buy from a foreign country. Since you're looking for deals, I assume you're not stinking rich and this is an investment for you - you won't want trouble if it fails early on, and you'll be glad you bought from a place with service you can drive to. (This does, of course, depend on the magnitude of the premium you'll pay for doing that.)
