I'm no landscape/tree expert, but remember watching an episode of Ask This Old House which they said don't mound up your mulch/dirt towards the trunk of your tree's remember weird stuff like that.  Noticed that tree in the yard is built up like they said not to do, in case it's your yard.  Great shot BTW.  Wish I could take a photo like that in both clarity and subject matter.

I wonder if it has to do with the species of tree.  It is super common around here to do that. And that's landscaping companies doing that.

And back on topic: I'm jealous that you are getting rain.  We have been threatened with it twice in the last 2 weeks but never got any. My lawn is almost totally brown now.
Take your camera with you dammit. You can't take your next "best photo" if your camera is sitting at home in the bag, now can you?

Same here on the brown grass. We are so far behind on rain that I am already considering canceling two workshops that I have planned for the end of summer/beginning of autumn. First thing I am thinking is that the autumn colors are going to really suffer and the second thing is that as we go waterfalling in the early autumn, there just might not be any water to shoot. :(

I wish that I had and effective rain dance as we really need it.
I'm an old film guy just playing catchup in this digital world. Help me out.

That's the neighbor's tree and no it's not the way I was always told to mulch a tree. Mounding up against the trunk gives bugs and disease a place to attack plus it doesn't encourage the roots to go deep. I always mound around the base, but leave the base itself open. Holds water better, helps fight bugs and encourages the roots to go deep.

Doodle - its a landscape company that maintains his yard. I've talked to him about it, but he doesn't say anything to them. Guess it's ok as long as the tree stays healthy.  ::)

That used to work for me 100% of the time! Sadly...I washed my Jeep Patriot 2 days ago and it's still clean dammit.  ;)

I stopped washing my car years ago.  Can't wait until a good rain storm to wash it again.

So YOU are the one responsible for this drought! Wash the damn thing so we can all get some rain. Jeez!  ;D

Hands up in the air everyone, rain fell in the desert this past weekend.  Got almost an inch of rain.  Since we only get an average of 7 inches of wet stuff from the sky every year, it was a good weekend to wash the car.  Don't know why the rest of you are felling a drought.  Doodle, my plan seems to be working about getting rain for everyone.
