Starting with the May contest that is themed Vast, I am going to ask you all to send me a PM with the link to your photo.

Send it just like you was posting it on the forum but just send it PM to me. Put your name, the image name, and then use the [ img ] tags to pm me your 990x415 shot.

I will then post it in the top header and we will judge shots blindly. We will use May to test this new process and see if we can make it work efficiently.

Thank you and may the odds always be with you. ;)

Absolutely love this idea!
Who came up with it? Surely not you Skip??? Don't tell me it was that sneaky Snapper!

I kid myself that the regular posters get less votes as most people think they're pros or something and therefore their work should be exceptional and if its just OK then it doesn't get as many votes.
Or I could just be bitter since I hardly ever get many votes :(

Perhaps I just need more practice!  :P
I once prayed to God for a camera, but quickly found out he didn't work that way.... so I stole a camera and prayed for his forgiveness.

I don't want anyone stealing my thunder with these great ideas so I have to say that I have been thinking about this for well over a month. However, there is no documented of that so I have to pass the idea to the one that posted it first. ;)

Utopia suggested, 1074 seconded it with a plus 10,000, then Doodle chimed in that he had actually talked to me about something similar a few months back but I forgot.

So there we have it. The new improved POTM contest on trial run for May.

I reckon that is a great idea - takes out any favouritism someone might have for someone else - however subconscious it might be :)

Is there any way to make it a blind post that only the Mods and higher could see? This would keep the anonymity while allowing more people to help with the back end code. It would also be set up for a final reveal as to who posted what picture.

I like the idea, I just don't want to dump it on one person.

this2ismyname - it would be blind. You just shoot me a pm with the pic embedded in the image tag just like you was going to post it. I then take your image out of the pm and post in the top post of the thread.

I notice fewer people put signatures on contest entries than normal postings, but perhaps you'd better spell out that you also need it with no signature. It might also be a good idea to get contestants to specifically 'release' the non-exclusive rights to the forum - you know photographers can be right funny about this stuff.

Hey Skippy,
I've had some experience with web programing, and I don't know the specifics of this forum. I wasn't sure if there was already an option that would allow an admin to temporarily hide the content posted to a topic. I just figured this might save you time. That's all.

I like this idea.  I have been reluctant to enter...... for various reasons. This may push me to actually enter.

I searched and searched and can not find an option to let us do that. :(

One of the forums I moderate works that way, it's Invision Power Board; a moderated message is 'greyed out' and doesn't appear to members and guests, while the moderators (who can see it) discuss the issue.

A question came up on another thread and now I'm curious.

All entries must be shot with a t2i? or not so much?

Nope. We used to be T2i only but now we are wide open.

Apart from Nikon cameras, natch!  :P
I used to be a very negative person... but then I went digital.
