Maybe Bish should ask but I will this time. :)
« on: September 11, 2013, 07:34:10 PM »
What do we all think of posting the shots as they come in vs waiting and then posting them all at the same time? I have mixed feelings on it personally and I am not going to say it out loud now as to why I want to or don't want to post them as they come in.

Opinions from the "unwashed masses" please. :) Seriously, opinions as to whether or not we want the shots posted as they come in are much appreciated.
I'm an old film guy just playing catchup in this digital world. Help me out.

Both. You don't want to post them too early because if there's a good one in there, it'll discourage other entries. But don't post them too late, so that people can look and see and think "wait a minute, I could do better".

By the way, there's a mathematical way to optimise the date at which you reveal the entries received so far.

Keep count of how many entries you receive prior to revelation day, and how many you received post revelation. Divide by the number of days that period lasted, to get a measure of "entries per day". Average over the last six months to smooth out anomalies. If you get more entries per day pre-revelation, delay the day of revelation. If you get more entries per day post revelation, advance the day of revelation. If the number of entries per day is the same, you've optimised it and you should keep it there.

If that left your head spinning, I could do a spreadsheet.

P.S. are you a captialist or a lefty? If you totally get optimisation and the above is totally logical, you're a capitalist. If you think numbers are obscene and you should to "the democratic right thing and to hell with the consequences" you're a lefty.  ;)

I agree with Andy - but only if he is the one to make the spreadsheet :P

I'm easy either way and can see benefits to both.

I'm for whatever is easier on you Skippy.  You're the one having to deal with all of this (and/or your other help from mods).
I personally liked the previous method of waiting and posting all at once (since an outstanding entry might suppress other entries) but if it's a pain to do that...go the easy route.  Either way there will be a competition.
IMHO  YMMV
Take your camera with you dammit. You can't take your next "best photo" if your camera is sitting at home in the bag, now can you?

Makes no difference to me.  I don't look until Skippy announces it's time to vote.

I have a feeling that a lot of people do it this way as well.

To be honest it is easier to do a batch at one time. Having said that, it is not the end of the world to do one today, then one next week etc.

I feel like a great shot right now scares people off. I have never been one to not enter a shot even though I knew it could not win but I don't feel like we are all like that. I do feel like I was getting more shots when I waited to post them. I have gotten to where I almost know when this one or that one will send it his/her shot based on past results.

Now Andy, I am not proficient in my spreadsheet abilities so I won't be doing the spreadsheet but if you want me to compile the data for you then I might do that. :)

My own opinion for what it is worth is it is better for a big reveal at the end, then all shots are judged together.

And how did asking questions become my duty?  :o
C&C always welcome. If you want to try re-editing any of my shots, feel free.

Because then when it all hits the fan, we easily know who to blame :)

You are a wise man Skippy.  I learned this a long time ago too.
3 sayings to memorize:
Yes Dear
You're Right
I'm Sorry

These will serve you well in later years.

I think you should keep it as is. Because if you put it up when you get it, we all may get tired of looking at the same shot while checking for more. The only reason you should put them up right away is that it lets us know that you got our shot. But I would keep it as is, that way when it's time to vote we all see shots we haven't seen and we vote on what one we like the best.
