POTM for August 2014 - No Theme - you can shoot this now!
« on: July 16, 2014, 01:56:10 PM »
As the entries for specific themes have been so low recently, I think we should go with 'No Theme' again for August so that, hopefully, the number of entries will increase...

Go out there and get the best shot that you can for the 990x415 crop, people!  ;)
I used to be a very negative person... but then I went digital.

I have an idea, maybe too late for this month, how about along with a "no theme" we have no rules.  Meaning, shoot anything and PP anything, including HDR, etc.  I know Zubbuz has been fighting for this for a while.  So, let's open it up to get more entries.

Let's leave it as it is for August but I would be happy to use your idea(s) for September as I believe that theme is also my choice for winning July's POTM ;)

PM me what you have in mind and I will get something posted, please? Thanks.

BTW - HDR is already allowed for POTM entries.

I should really have a go at this: now there's only three people participating, perhaps I have a better chance of being shortlisted ;)

I didn't realize HDR shots where allowed for POTM shots since they consist of more than one shot.  Really doesn't matter to me since I haven't been able to get out and get any type of shot for a while.

I know that feeling brother.  What little bit I did do (the air show and the grandbaby), wasn't POTM material...
Take your camera with you dammit. You can't take your next "best photo" if your camera is sitting at home in the bag, now can you?

But you don't move the camera...

I remember how I felt about it: compositing different exposures of the same shot is ok because it's really just a 'darkroom' technique, but what you can't do is composite different shots (e.g. put your wife in a cage of tigers) because that's bordering on digital art. JMHO

Did anyone else besides me think to themselves: "hmmm...can I get by with this?"    ::)  ;D

I think this is pretty much exactly how it was defined when the big discussion happened a while ago - as it is just different exposures of the same scene it is just increasing the dynamic range as opposed to introducing anything new.

Which in a way kind of has to be allowed because there are people here shooting solely with say a 5DIII which has a decently greater dynamic range than the 550D, therefore for the 550D to match the 5DIII, they need to be able to increase the dynamic range of the sensor artificially...
You are young. Life has been kind to you. You will learn.

Is the closing date the 25th as usual?

Yes, sorry, been a bit manic here recently!

I will put up the first poll tomorrow - if anyone hasn't already sent me their entry, now would be a good time!  ;)
