This is the first annual t2iforum film challenge.  Since I don't have any sponsors (I tried, it's just that no one's showing any love), I'm digging into my own collection for the prize, a Hague MMC steadicam, BAM!  I need at least 10 entrants in order to give out the Hague steadicam.  If we have less than 10, we're competing for bragging rights like in the photo of the month contest.  Deadline for submissions is July 31, 2011.  Members will vote on the top 3 videos from August 1, 2011 to August 8, 2011 and I will pick the winner from the top 3 (since the prize is sourced from yours truly)

Theme - Nature/Environment
Prop - Car or Truck
Action - Throwing a Rock

Rules
  • Who Can Enter - Any member with a minimum of 10 posts as of June 1, 2011 (exceptions are MrPatNoonan and neoorganik) - I'm doing this because I want to prevent stragglers from winning my shit
  • Video must be shot all on the Canon t2i camera
  • Video Length Maximum - 4 Minutes (including credits)
  • Video Length Minimum - None
  • You must include the prop and action in your film with the theme specified in order to qualify.  It's up to the entrants to interpret the theme the way they'd like and decide on the style (documentary, drama, comedy, commercial, ...etc...)
  • I have the right to cancel this thing at any time or not give out a prize (this is just to cover myself, I'd have to be a dick to not give out the prize)
  • IMPORTANT - Don't post your videos on the forum.  Send me an email at ryan@t2iforum.com with a link to the video.  I will post all videos on August 1, 2011.  You can use this thread to discuss the competition or request clarification on rules, ...etc...
.
If you don't like the rules, tough shit.  I'm barely employed and giving away equipment that I bought with my own money.  Good luck everyone!

Judging Criteria on the Final 3*

55% - Directing, Editing, Lighting, Sound, and Cinematography
45% - Writing, Story, and Originality

* Subject to change

So get a good story going, keep those shots steady and don't forget about the importance of good sound!

I like the theme and everything.  I have never attempted to use my camera for videos yet so this is going to be good for me.  I have a great idea and can't wait to get on this.  Thanks, Ryan :)

Can I ask why the 70/30 split to production quality and creativity?

It's subject to change.  I might make it closer to 50/50 but I'm more interested in seeing what the members can come up with technically/production value.  Now that I think about it, I think I'll make it 55/45.  Do you think that's fair?

Yeah, that's cool, I wasn't complaining, I was just asking. 70-30 is fine if that's what you want.

I can't speak for Ryan, but I make the following observation from which you may draw your own conclusions.

  • The competition is open to people who had already 10 posts at the time the competition was announced
  • Your question is your 4th post

Hi Andy,

Thank you for answering. :)

Yes, I'm new on this forum and I love it! I've been using T2i since Oct 2010 and just found out this forum. It helps me a lot to enhance my ability using T2i and develop more great photos and (hopefully) videos.

Best of luck.

Regards!

Ryan, when you say THEME, is that like...the central idea of the film?
