How do I stop the camera from automatically adding brightness?
« on: January 05, 2011, 05:29:06 PM »
I have turned the exposer all the way down, turned the screen brightness all the way down, turned off the flash, tried numerous settings and still my pictures don't come out the same as they look on the screen before I take the picture. It's not so bad when there is normal sun light, but when it gets darker the brightness automatically changes when I take the picture. It's driving me crazy, can someone help?

It doesn't seem to matter which one, but I usually use the CA one.

Tell us a little. You really had me scratching my head trying to understand exactly what you had going on there.
I'm an old film guy just playing catchup in this digital world. Help me out.

Yeah, I'd also like to know.  Would be useful if someone else ever comes across the same issue.

there's an option in the custom functions to automatically add brightness to what the canon firmware considers to be underexposed images.
let me take a look...
*looking*
Custom Function II page 6 -> Image Highlight tone priority

just disable it, then it'ld be fine

I think the function which adds extra brightness is Auto Lighting Optimizer, so turn it off.
