Compositing competition
« on: August 30, 2013, 12:38:38 PM »
In the recent/ongoing discussion regarding composites in the POTM, the illustrious Doodle suggested having a chopping comp for anyone interested....

I thought I would just start this up here for anyone to register their interest so we could start hashing out any details or what form the comp would take :)

Only if that damn hat has some Dominoe's pizza in it too!

(yea, count me in on this Z-man)
Take your camera with you dammit. You can't take your next "best photo" if your camera is sitting at home in the bag, now can you?

Never know it might only end up being the three of us :P

I think some of the basic rules should be like the POTM - ie you take ever element of the shot yourself - no nicking other peoples work for inclusion (eg stock photography)...

We could try working off a theme if there is something that we can work out - that might get us all on an level footing as otherwise we could each come out with something very very different which would be hard to judge...

Feel free to pipe up with any suggestions - I'm flailing around in the dark here :P

How about matching the POTM themes each month?

Although you might be too good so we will let you enter, but may have to disqualify you on the grounds of being too professional :P

Haha - I kinda forgot about this after getting buried in work and some slight ill health that hung around :P

The main question is what sort of form would this take? Eg would it have a theme and then you just chop whatever you want (of your own work) and enter it? Should there be specific requirements of categories of stuff that needs to be chopped in?

I have no idea - how to chopping comps work on PS type forums?

Are you guys looking for a vote type competition or just post to show your work and maybe talk a little about how we did. I'd like to see how others do their post. Maybe a separate thread for posting your Photoshop work.
I'd be in to that but as far as picking winners and losers.....I don't know.
6D, T2i, Canon 600EX, 430EXII, and some other stuff my wife doesn't know about.

Yeah, I was thinking that it would come down to a vote much like the old HDR comps did (can't remember if you were around when they were being done?)...

As to a separate thread - there is already the post-processing general discussion thread I suppose..

I think the User Submitted Competitions area (where the HDR comps also used to be) would be the most appropriate. Easy enough to set the thread as a 'Sticky' if you wish - just let one of the Mods or Skippy know.

HTH  :)
