lens advise
« on: February 13, 2013, 12:05:52 AM »
so i'm looking for some info and help on good lenses to shoot live bands, i'm still fairly new and just using the the stock standard kit lens.
i have been taking some okay photos, but i'm lacking in Depth of Field in a lot of photos that would make most of them that much better

any advise on that and flash advise would be great

Maybe a fisheye, Samyang do an 8mm as do Canon and they are either $500 - $2000?

Failing that 35mm or 85mm prime? They are both circa $400 (I'm converting from GBP).

The cheapest prime is a 50mm 1.8 which is around $130 - but the 50mm and 85mm can be a little too tight in from the front.

I'd recommend out of the bunch - http://www.amazon.com/Canon-35mm-Wide-Angle-Cameras/dp/B00009XVCU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360768503&sr=8-1&keywords=35mm+prime

Has a good rep and is quite quick, portable etc.

Or maybe the Tokina 11-16

Built like a tank and has excellent optics.

Flashwise - depends on the situation but for an on camera flash you can't do too much better then a speedlite
