« on: June 21, 2013, 07:22:42 AM »
Hi everyone I've jus brought a 550d
I'm using it to take pictures if teeth as I'm a dentist

I've set it on manual mode but can't use live view when on manual mode
The screen is black,
Only when I flip up the flash does the live view LCD start working

Also I have a ring flash when this is attached the live view picture on LCD screen doesn't work? Please help I'm new to this and very confused

Any help would be much appreciated thank you

The live view is actually working, it's just that the exposure is so dark that the screen looks black. Push the jog wheel to the left to decrease the shutter speed, and it will come in. And you're not the first one to do that ;-)

Tell us what kind of teeth picture you're trying to take, and you'll get lots of tips here on how to take good ones. We can infer that you want close-ups because you mention a macro flash ring. What kind is it? Can you post the type number?

Also, did you get a macro lens? The short kit lens (18~55mm) will do a fair approximation to macro if that's all you have, but depending on your needs you may find yourself getting a better one.
