T2i Equipment compatibility, help please!
« on: January 21, 2013, 04:44:28 PM »
I have a T2i and just got a konova slider.  What are tripod options that can work with the t2i and konova slider? thanks

I don't quite understand your question. I mean the slider is a slider right? Now by compatibility are you asking about the quick mount? I am guessing that you want to be able to pop the T2i from the slider and then pop it into a tripod via a quick mount. I have zero experience with any slider so I can't really help you but I do want to help you get your question out there in a way that others can understand what you are trying to figure out.

The t2i's bottom fitting is smaller than the sliders larger fitting.  I figured i could get a tripod with a head that fits the t2i and can attatch onto the slider?

okay so I could get a ball head mount..to put on the slider or put a tripod head on from what I read.

What kind of options do I have under 300$ that can support the weight of a setup with a slider on it, and give me smooth camera moves without the slider.

Maybe I am reading this wrong, but are you saying that the t2i mount on the bottom of the camera that attaches to a tripod screw doesn't fit the mount that came with your slider?

I thought all the mounts were universal?
Can you provide us pictures of what you are referring to?

I think I can help here...  8)  (And I actually just bought a Konova K2 80cm, too, after a LOT of research... And I am PICKY.)

It seems some sliders come with a 3/8" screw instead of a 1/4-20 screw (which is what the mount on the bottom of the T2i is, btw.), and many come with an adapter so you can use both.

I *think* he's asking for a tripod that can support the slider, and also separately mount the T2i without the slider. That's my best interpretation.

To keep under his budget, I'd recommend this tripod/head kit: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/567602-REG/Manfrotto_190XDB_with_701HDV_Video.html

This extra plate: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/553892-REG/Manfrotto_501PL_501PL_Sliding_Quick_Release.html

and a decent ball head to mount on the slider: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/660321-REG/Manfrotto_496RC2_496RC2_Compact_Ball_Head.html

Total: $320

The ball head would mount on the slider and stay there, no need to ever remove it.

The tripod comes with a head & quick release plate. Along with the extra plate, you're good to go.

Mount the extra plate to the bottom of the slider and it can be mounted to the tripod any time. The other plate is for the T2i when you want to put it on the tripod instead of the slider.

If you want to up the budget just a little bit, you can get another 701HDV head to mount on the slider instead of the ball head, and you can use the same quick release plate for everything, which is pretty nice.

If you did that it would bump the budget to $380, and it would be worth it.

These videos should help clear up what's going on here...

(if your cup of tea or coffee is low, now's the time.  ;) )

A slider intro that covers the Konova K2:

(This video is of an older version, the legs on the new ones are different. Ignore everything he says about the legs, it's irrelevant. Aside from that, they're the same):

And this video shows the slider mounted on a tripod, with a fluid head mounted on the slider (again, the older version with different legs, ignore his comments about the legs, the new ones are MUCH better):

And this unboxing video shows the current version with the new legs:

Let me know if any of this doesn't make any sense. That happens to me a lot.  :o

Forgot to add, Konova sells direct only, either through ebay or amazon (i bought through amazon). I'm in the US and got the 80cm model for $244 shipped.

They offer a very affordable motor option, too.

Its a tripod head adapter as explained above! We sat and looked at it puzzled for a while!
