Nice!  If they can pull it off with sharp optics that would be a very desirable lens.  A nice compliment to a 17-50 f 2.8.  I would be doing back flips if it was a bit wider on the wide end.

Looks promising. I will definitely wait to see what the users and reviewers say about it after it has been out and about for a while.
On the surface, I love the idea of 1.8 throughout that range!  I just wonder what it will be like though, especially at full zoom and what the corners of the images will be like.
Detailed reviews are our friends. ;)
Take your camera with you dammit. You can't take your next "best photo" if your camera is sitting at home in the bag, now can you?

If it is anything like the  sigma 18-35 f1.8 it will be very good!  http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00DBL0NLQ

it's a shame the 18-35 and the 50-100 don't meet in the middle. it does kinda leave a hole in a fairly useful range.
that said, for portraits, which is what this lens is going to be stellar at, the edges are ok if a little soft, but I'm going to bet it will perform well across the board. they wouldn't bother making such a moderately expensive lens if it were going to be poor at the edges.

I hear you, but I honestly don't think I'd miss the 36-49mm range much.  It seems like I usually want to be either wide for landscapes and buildings, or tighter for people and details.  It's hard to know for certain with a zoom, but I don't think I take many shots in that range.

Actually, most of them do. Even the cashy ones. No one intends to make it that way..it's the nature of the beast.

this 50-100 makes me hope they come up with a 17-50 f/1.8 or better yet, a 17-70 f/1.8  ::)
