Yongnuo YN585EX flash gun
« on: February 08, 2012, 04:20:27 PM »
Hello,

Has anybody used the yongnuo YN585EX flash gun with their Canon 550D camera and what did you think of it.  I am learning about flash in my next class (for total beginners) and didn't want to spend loads on a flash that I might only use a few times.  They seem to get ok reviews but I kinda trust you guys more than a web review.

cheers.

Also looking forward to buy my first flash. Yongnuo seems a good budget brand. If anyone
owns one please help Tartlaghan and I. Much appreciated!

Everything that I've read about them say they are good performers.

But I've read proportionately more about reliability issues. I don't know if that is because they sell a lot due to pricing...

Despite that risk, I have a YN-560 and a YN-468ii on order. These models have been around for a while and have been updated to some extent since initial release, so I'm hoping reliability will be improved.

The YN-585EX is relatively new and seems to have more reported issues.

I was looking also at the 468II. It looks really nice and better than
the first version that came out. Let us know how it works for you Ctwo ok?

Hi,
I have the YN-465 and am VERY happy with it. (Cost me £40 ~ $60)
I do very little photography with a flash and wanted something simple that just worked with no real effort from me.
This flash is full ETTL or you can dial in manual settings from 1/64 up to full. I must admit I've only used it on auto and been exceptionally happy.

I used http://speedlights.net/ when doing all my research.

Here is a photo I snapped from a New Years Eve party. Indoor with average lighting taken at 70mm, 1/40 sec, ISO 400 with the flash bounced off the ceiling. I did take some non flash shots too but deleted them as they were all unusable! Sorry, no comparison for you.

I once prayed to God for a camera, but quickly found out he didn't work that way.... so I stole a camera and prayed for his forgiveness.

CAMERAS - Canon 550D | Canon Ixus 120 IS | Panasonic FZ7
LENSES - EF-S 15 - 85mm | EF-S 18 - 55mm | EF-S 55 - 250mm | EF 50mm f/1.8 II prime
ACCESSORIES - Manfrotto 190XPROB Tripod | Giotto MML3270B Monopod | YN-465 Flash | Lowepro Fastpack 100 Rucsack
SOFTWARE - Picasa 3 | Photoshop Elements 9 | Photomatix 4.0 | Lightroom 3 with Topaz Plug-ins

Brilliant - thank you.  I shall now buy a YN - 465, it seems a reasonable price and a sensible choice to begin with.  I don't know how much I will use one but would rather only spend £40 now rather than shed loads of cash and find I use it just a few times a year.

Thanks again

ps love the dog - my two run like the devil himself is after them when I take out the camera!!  :)

I have a YN-560 that works great and I bought a YN-565 that came DOA  :(

The good news is that I shipped it back and they refunded me with no question and did it promptly I might add.

Hubby has just bought me the YN-468II as a valentines gift (the old romantic!) however as its coming to the UK from Hong Kong it could take up to 24 days  :(

It cost £59.99 on Ebay brand new unused unopened!

Looking forward to learning how to use it when it arrives and wondering what he could possibly buy for my birthday next week?  ;)
