jotkeycom - I am not trying to start a big issue over this but again don't you think that the camera should work the way it should work? I use Auto Off. I don't think Canon would have it on there and default to it if it was a problem.
I'm an old film guy just playing catchup in this digital world. Help me out.

What's with this, "is it on or not" stuff?  The red light indicates when activity is happening and you just press the LiveView button if for some reason the screen is still black after turning it on.  I never have problems knowing whether or not my battery is dead.  Auto shutoff or whatever should be disabled anyway.  Why would you want that enabled if you're the type of person that's posting on these forums?  It's like complaining about no autofocus.
You never had problem knowing whether your batt is dead because you never experienced this issue. Why not give it  a shot for a weak, try the settings I posted earlier, see how it affects you. btw what's the relation of a person posting on forums and auto shutoff?? and I hope you meant no autofocus in video mode... because if autofocus didn't work in picture mode, trust me, I wouldn't be the only one complaining.

You say every time you're about to shoot something you cannot determine whether or not the battery is dead because you have auto-off set and I'm guessing you walk around for a bit before you decide to take a picture of something.  Well honestly, just change your habits.  You should have your camera on and ready when you're actually taking pictures or whatever.  If you're letting your camera automatically turn off, maybe it wasn't a good time to take it out in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, it's not the auto-off I'm complaining about generally... When I "switch" the camera ON, it shows a large sensor cleaning icon, then the screen goes off. So I guess I should be leaving my camera ON the whole day while i'm walking around? lol

Just some info on this issue (screen not coming on)

Canon T2i display problem

They've posted what they say is a fix:

FOUND out that the "Control over HDMI" causes this bug (with my other specific options). If I disable this option, this bug doesn't happen. Canon should PAY me to have discovered this!!
