its exactly like doing the firmware updates from canon. which reminds me, make sure you have the newest canon firmware up date. its something like 1.0.9. Once you do that and the ML update, you have to make the SD card bootable, then you can run ML and film/take pix on the same card. Just don't ever reformat the card again. Instead click the "erase all images on card" on the camera.

Its not that difficult. I know when I read "make the card bootable" I wanted to curl up into a ball and cry til my cam worked like it did 5 minutes before. Its really really easy tho. Depending on what computer you are using, mac or PC, there are different routes to take, both really easy.

New build:

It may be a bit unstable, so please test it and report all the problems.

I am unable to get the Magic Lantern Firmware working on my Canon T2i.

I am running on Mac Leopard OSX Version 10.5.8

I have the latest 1.0.9 Canon Firmware installed. I tried installing the 0.2 Firmware for 1.0.9 from the Wiki site. I have also tried installing the 0.2 Firmware for 1.0.9 from Jan 12, 2011. Both ways seemed to install fine.

I then went on to make my SD card bootable via the Terminal method on Mac OSX (as the video, and command prompt options in the Installation Instructions suggests). I followed directions and copied the .CFG .BMP's and autoexec.bin files onto my SD card. I started my camera and no Magic Lantern Firmware options showed up, even after I pressed the Trash can button.

I then tried the same steps but with the MacBoot application to make the SD card bootable, again no Magic Lantern options or features show up in Movie mode on my camera, even after I press the Trash can button.

I have no idea why this isn't working for me. I've tried to get this working a number of times so far, and no success.

Can anyone help me out?

2011Jan13.550d.fw109.AudioMon.silent.alex.zip & 2011Jan13.550d.fw109.NoAudioMon.silent.alex.zip

Latest build...

http://groups.google.com/group/ml-devel/msg/32bb7b314123b754

Quote from: a1ex
- Better silent pictures (single/burst modes, integration with intervalometer, batch mode for py script)
- Cropmark autodetection (just put them in cropmks folder); also, better memory management for cropmarks.
- Some minor fixes

Also, since audio monitoring breaks certain functions, I've made two builds. If you need audio monitoring, use the AudioMon build. Otherwise, use the NoAudioMon build. This is only temporary, until I'll be able to fully reverse hotplug_task.

Who wants to try focus peaking?

Tohtruck: also try another card, another computer or another card reader. If you saw the screen with "writing this... hacking that... DONE!" and you've got the log files on the SD card, ML was installed on the camera, so only the card is problematic now.

I figured it out, for some reason, it only worked when I kinda jumbled all the installation steps together.

That is, I had the Card Prapared in Macboot and had the firmware file and the boot file, cfg, etc. all on the card. I installed the firmware with the card n everything in, then just rebooted the camera, and it worked.

Thanks guys

Actually, okay, I think I've figured it out. It's very strange, for some reason I can't get Magic Lantern using the standard steps in the instructions and all the installation tutorials.

What works for me, is I put the installation firmware, autoexec.bin, etc. on my SD card. I prepare it, and the only way to get Magic Lantern working is by installing the firmware and then switching over to movie mode. Unfortunately, when I try to reboot my camera, I can't get back to the Magic Lantern Firmware, unless I install the firmware and then switch over to movie mode.

Very strange.

I would also like to add that I noticed a ROM0.BIN file and .LOG files that appear on my card after I have booted Magic Lantern using my method. It seems as though, I get a numbered .LOG file for each time I boot Magic Lantern using my method.

Ok, some very strange developments.

It seems that I am able to get to the Magic Lantern firmware from just loading the firmware (no autoexec.bin or any other files on my SD Card other than just the firmware) and then switching over to video mode.

Very bizarre.

I formatted my card, just threw on the firmware file on my SD card (this is after I formatted my card on my camera) without preparing the card with Macboot. I loaded the firmware and then switched over to movie mode, and the magic lantern features showed up (this is without removing my SD card to add the Autoexec.bin file). As to be expected, I am unable to access the CropMarks, even when I put the cropmarks folder or the cropmarks on the card (parent folder, not in a cropmark folder).

What's goin' on here? Is this just my camera that is having these weird issues?

Do not stat ML with "upgrade firmware"! That's why I wrote "delete magiclantern.fir". There may be a counter which locks the camera after too many updates (like on the 7D).

I couldn't install ML on my 16 GB card until I've bought another card reader. The old one only worked with the 512 MB one.

I see, thanks for the tip.

So you are saying I should try a different card reader?

Hmm? Nope, I tried a different card reader, and a different USB port on my Macbook Pro. Nothin'!

It's just strange, it seems like I'm the only one that has a camera that won't boot Magic Lantern by following the instructions. Very weird!

Is there anyone else with similar issues trying to load Magic Lantern?

Am I posting all this in the wrong forum? Is there a Magic Lantern Forum that I am unaware of?

Is there a certain type of SD card that we are supposed to use for the installation process?

I got it working with a 16mb Card that appeared as a Fat 12 card in Macboot. Unfortunately, it is only 16mb (therefore useless for video).

So far the Fat 32 cards haven't been working at all.
