I'm new with photography and just got a 550d.
 
I'm not sure if this is normal or a problem - When I'm on the Viewfinder, AF mode, and using the built in Flash. When i AF for a shot, the built in flash pulses or it flashes few times before the final shot.
Is that normal or is my built in Flash stuffed?

Thats just normal! Happens to me too :)

That is normal... The camera needs additional light to focus.  Some cameras have an infra-red focus beam, this one uses the flash.

Thank you for posting this.  Useful especially for me coz I'm using the Japanese version of EOS550D i.e. EOS Kiss X4. The reference manual are in Japanese. So... this is helpful. TQVM

When you put on an external flash like the 430 or 580 canon flash it will shoot an IR beam to focus.

yah.. it happens too me..my is KISS X4..what i did is buy external flash..hehe..then solve my problem
