« on: February 14, 2012, 08:25:25 PM »
Ok, so I lost the cap to my 50mm, and all i see on Amazon.com is ones for 52mm? Is that the size I need?
~Sal

I only use my Canon Rebel Digital T2i. I have a 18-55 and  55-250 kit, 50mm 1.8 lens, DHD 0.45 x super wide angle lens with macro, a macro close up set, a Fotodiox Macro extension tube set kit and UV, Circular, and florescent lens.

Read on the lens itself, it will say on the front of the lens.  On my EF-S 18-135mm kit lens it has a circle with a line through it (I am sure that has a name but cannot recall what it is) then 67mm.  That is the screw filter size and the cap will be that size also.

A Quick search of B and H photo yields the following.  Just scroll down to the lens caps:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?atclk=Brand_Canon&Ntt=Lens+cap+for+Canon+18-55mm&N=4291570227

And they list them by the screw filter size.

The filter size for the the 50mm is 52mm, and in turn so is the lens cap size.
"Wow, that camera takes nice pictures!"

The circle with the line through it is the diameter symbol. You can get this in Windows by typing Alt-8960 (hold Alt, and type 8960 on the numeric keypad, then release Alt).

8960...that did not work.
8960...hummm that did not either.

That is as close as I could come on the Mac.  to get it, I have to go and show Character Viewer, find it on the Math menu, it calls it Empty Set and click an insert button. No keyboard short cut that I could find, but it might be there.

That's the way to do it on a Mac - use character viewer. Sorry, no hot keys...

Man I am so with this statement.

Anytime I replace a cap I go with a Nikon knockoff cap. I just love the way you can pinch in the center to take them off.

Don't hate me Canon people, I buy some knockoffs here and there.

I am making myself crazy trying to get the ALT - 8960 to work but I can't. :(

SKIPPY!!!! And you are one of the Moderators on this CANON board!

Go straight onto the naughty step. 1 minute for every year of your age...

Disgraceful behaviour, even worse when you encourage others to act in this shameful manner!!!!

For me, that is tantamount to a guy who loses the 'Spirit of Ecstacy' silver lady off the front of his Rolls Royce replacing it with a plastic  figurine of Ronald McDonald.

 ;)  ;)  ;)

(You could of course be forgiven if you also black out the N*kon logo so that it can't be seen!)

I am very LOYAL to most products I believe highly in.  Canon since I was 15 (bought my first SLR at that age), and Apple.  LOVE to argue with Windows people (but all in fun).

I have to admit, Nikon does have a very nice lens cap.

@Skippy - Get a Mac and I will make you a movie on how to do the Alt-8960 to work!  :)
