First photo with my new camera - opinions please!
« on: January 14, 2012, 01:39:58 PM »
Hi All, just joined the forum having bought a new Canon EOS-550D.  Am a complete novice and technophobe, so bear with me.  However I do think I got a nice shot this morning of Jack Frost.  What do you more experience folk think.

Nice shot.
I think you've got good light and nice focus.
It's quite a busy composition and I would suggest getting in tighter and shooting just one or two leaves. That way you could also get the crystalline structure of the frost in the shot also.

Looking forward to seeing some more ;)
I once prayed to God for a camera, but quickly found out he didn't work that way.... so I stole a camera and prayed for his forgiveness.

That makes me cold just looking at it! Nice lighting, and I second the "simplify the composition" vote... Looks sharp enough, you might even get away with cropping.

Many thanks!  Totally get the composition - it is very busy! Will try to crop it to see what I can do.   Off out again to play (in the cold) to see what I can come up with.

Thanks again  :)

last year we had shed loads of snow and the country was ground to a halt!  HA the UK does not cope well with snow!!!  This year we have had very little frost - the winter has been so mild (not that I am complaining) so I was lucky to get a frosty morning to play!  today the temp is 8 degrees celsius!   :D

I slipped on the morning frost getting into my car to go to work today... I didn't take a picture.

Would have been neat to have the trigger finger ready though. Life making art. Then we would have bitched about you composition and wondered if you could go back and shot it at a smaller f stop but faster shutter for more dof but freezing some of the action.

Okay, I've gone on to long about my mental image of 1074 getting jacked by some ice. Maybe time to go to bed. :)

It might sound exciting, but really it would have just ended up being a blurry, dark pic of the inside of my car...  :-\
