General Settings
« on: February 02, 2012, 01:20:23 PM »
I think it's important to ask ( I keep forgetting to), what should the settings be for things like: M, TV,AV, P and such?

What should: Picture style, auto Lighting optimizer, Metering mode,  Drive mode,  AF mode be?

I have my quality on "Medium" with a half round circle I think it is. I have my Exposure comp. in the middle. Yes, I understand that each situation is different, but is there a Basic/General setting I should start out with?

I've fiddled with them sooo much I don't know what a normal starting out setting for them should be.

I only use my Canon Rebel Digital T2i. I have a 18-55 and  55-250 kit, 50mm 1.8 lens, DHD 0.45 x super wide angle lens with macro, a macro close up set, a Fotodiox Macro extension tube set kit and UV, Circular, and florescent lens.

Somewhere in the menus, you can rest the camera back to factory default settings, if that is what you mean.

You could always perform a settings reset from the menu to put everything back how it was when you first got it and then set to RAW etc. I used to do this quite a lot when I first got my T2i/550D.  ;)
Sometimes I find it really difficult to concentr......  ooooooh! a butterfly!!!!

Yep you can do like they are saying and hit the menu button and go to the last Wrench. From there go down to Clear Settings and you are back to factory default settings...whatever they are.

Now most of those settings are just what you prefer to shoot in.

I like to shoot in Spot Metering mode most of the time but I am going to tell you that my opinion on Evaluative Metering is changing to the point that I no longer avoid it.

Drive mode is again just simply what you prefer. I am always in continuous shooting unless I am using my remote then I am in Self Timer/ Remote Control.

Picture style does not matter to me at all as I set that after the fact since I shoot in RAW. However, if I was shooting in JPG then I would set it to what I was shooting.

The one thing that I would suggest is setting the Color Space to Adobe RGB as it can do a heck of a lot more tonal ranges than standard RGB can.
I'm an old film guy just playing catchup in this digital world. Help me out.

square root of 2:   f/1, f/1.4, f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11, f/16, f/22, f/32, f/45, f/64, f/90, f/128

Thanks Skippy! I cleared it and started over. I also changed the color space and changed to spot metering.
