Cinemagraphs
« on: February 17, 2012, 02:13:06 PM »
This is something I have wanted to try for a while and was one of the main reasons why I chose the T2i (over the T1i).  Has anyone ever attempted to make one of these?

no but I have wanted to. They always look really cool. We should have a cinemagraph contest next month. That would be awesome.

Just found these examples: http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/cinemagrams I had no idea what they were until this thread mentioned them but they sure look pretty cool  8)

Am I correct in assuming that they are mainly used as wallpaper etc. on smartphones?

Two problems, the obvious display vector, animated gif, is unsuitable for photographs. Photo formats generally don't allow for animation. After animated gif, the market is fragmented, with no obvious winner to agree on.

Second, the ones I've seen have obvious discontinuities (try typing that after a late night) at the looping point.

I'm in otherwise...

Ohh,uhh.  I don't know.  I guess I just assumed that you could in the forums since you could do video.  I see animated stuff on the site so I figured uploading a .gif wouldnt be a problem...
