Magic Lantern Question
« on: February 07, 2012, 01:09:15 PM »
For those who use Magic Lantern...

How many brackets can you set when taking pics?  I know without ML, you can only use three.. can you go up to nine?

Also, with ML can you tell the camera to shoot at f/11 at night and will it figure out the right speed to get a perfect exposed picture?

9 is the max as far as I can see.

Not sure I understand your second question.
You can do that in Manual without ML??? It's called Av mode  ::)
Explain exactly what you're aiming for.
I once prayed to God for a camera, but quickly found out he didn't work that way.... so I stole a camera and prayed for his forgiveness.

ML will also cut you off at 30 secs in AV mode.

You'll need to go to Bulb for that.

So the next question is with bulb activated, if i hold the shutter button down, can it automatically stop the shot when the exposure is right?

I don't think so.

I'm pretty sure that you'll have to figure that one out.

Parkey, or anyone that cares.

Just in case you did not think of this then I am going to type this all out. It is not hard to figure out the Shutter that you need for those bulb shots if you do a little work.

First I suggest putting the camera in AV. Dial in the widest F stop that you have. See what the shutter suggestion is. Now if it is F4 at 8 seconds then you just manually count out the stops to f11 which would be three whole stops. From there you increase the shutter stops three WHOLE stops. That would take you from 8 seconds to 15, to 30, to 60 seconds.

So you see that the shot that you would take at f/4 and 8 seconds will be the exact same exposure at f/11 and 60 seconds.

*I bolded the word WHOLE when talking about shutter stops because your camera may be set in 1/3 or 1/2 shutter stops. So when you turn the dial from 8 seconds it might go to 10, and then 13, before going a full stop to 15.
I'm an old film guy just playing catchup in this digital world. Help me out.

square root of 2:   f/1, f/1.4, f/2, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11, f/16, f/22, f/32, f/45, f/64, f/90, f/128

just downloaded and installed magic lantern.  I heard, and was under the impression, that you could take a 9 bracketed exposure shot all at once.   Is this true?

Let me boil it all down here..

1.  ML Menu - I have HDR Bracketing set to 3x1 EV  0-+, 2s
2.  I have my brackets spaced on my normal menu..

it's only taking four pictures... what do I have to do different?

Did you mean 3x1 EV?
Wouldn't that take 3 pictures?

Yeah..I figured it out.  Jtibbs helped me out.  Had to press the Q button to get to a screen to where I could add more pics to it.

I see where you were having trouble now.

The help menu on screen within ML is pretty useful.
It does say "Press Q to bring up submenu"  :P
