Speedlight course Free to Stream TODAY!
« on: May 19, 2012, 04:38:52 AM »
I just found out this course on Speedlights will be streaming for free for the next couple of Days.
It is being taught by Mark Wallace who does the Adorama TV spots on Youtube. This started on Friday, however he will start up again around 10am Pacific Time.

It looks good at first, but only the first three parts have "Watch" buttons, the others don't - will they appear later? I tried enrolling, but that only lets me watch live on ustream. Since I have a life and can't watch it live, but they want me to pay to download it, therefore it's no good, is it? And I tried to search for Mark Wallace and creativeLive on ustream, but all I can find is "snapfactory" where they tried it out in 2010.

Can anyone get to the bottom of this? I don't even want to invest time in starting watching the 'course' unless I know I can watch the whole thing, and I'm feeling frustrated so far just trying to understand where it's hosted and what you're allowed to see.

Yeah it seems as if the only way you can watch it non-live, you have to pay..... Might be wrong but that is the way I'm seeing it....

Fortunately for me, I currently don't have a life :)

You won't be able to download it and watch it without paying for it. They talked about that earlier in the day.

Thanks for confirming that - I'm now also a bit peeved that I can't delete my enrollment/registration. I think you should be able to do that on principle, although to be fair, it's probably just a line in a database that will never do anything, so "deletion" doesn't mean much.

Anyone reading this might wonder why I'm annoyed to find that I can't get it for free (like, what did I expect?) but in the digital world, sometimes there IS a free lunch, and I just wasted half an hour finding out that it's not, in this case.

CreativeLive courses are free, if you watch live.

They're only useful, though, if you have the educational level of a 3 year old. A drunken 3 year old.

I've watched a few, including the current one (and one with Laforet), and they are aimed squarely at people with ZERO experience.

If you know what light is, and how pointing light in different directions can effect a photo, you could literally teach this CreativeLive class. Of course you'd have to be boring, but that's beside the point.

There is nothing offered by CreativeLive that cannot be learned on http://photo.tutsplus.com/ for free.

That might be slightly harsh... I know a little bit about this (in this case flash type stuff) from reading online etc (just ordered a YN-468 II) but there are quite a few little tips etc that I am picking up... I can easily see that if you do have a bit of experience, this would be far below what you want... As I am fairly close to the bottom of the rung, especially when it comes to flash work, it is useful to me (although that being said, I am happily tuning out during certain sections)....

Cheers for that other link though - I will be looking through that as well :)

I was cranky earlier because several small things went against me at once, and you've cheered me up a bit - thanks! And for the link...

And thanks for the new link. Eventhough I listed this, and signed up for the streaming - I missed the whole thing.

Although they go on about having to buy to watch non-live - they appear to be replaying yesterdays one today.... This might really only be good for people on the otherside of the world from the US though :)
