Testing the Tokina 35mm f2.8 Macro
« on: February 22, 2012, 08:45:10 AM »
This is a fantastic lens. I was a little reluctant to get it since there were not many reviews out there and it does not have a solid fanbase. This is a very underrated lens. I went with my gut and bought it for $299.99 at B&H. I have to say, at f2.8 is super SHARP. Its sharpest aperture is in between f4.0 and f5.0. I found that it was spot on with the review that www.photozone.de did of it. Although they reviewed the Nikon version, I don't think it matters because I agree with everything that is being said about this lens. I had on my wishlist the Canon 35mm f2.0 and the Sigma 30mm f1.4. I decided to go with the Tokina because of its incredible sharpness at its maximum aperture, its build quality (kinda heavy) and not so fast but sufficient (at least for me) maximum aperture. Bokeh is very good in this lens and kinda creamy too. Its way better than the Canon and almost on par with the Sigma. The macro feature is an awesome added bonus. Autofocus is fast and silent compared to the Canon buzzy autofocus. 1:1 Magnification Ratio. You can go ahead and read the review here. http://www.photozone.de/nikon--nikkor-aps-c-lens-tests/640-tokina3528prodx. Like I said, the review is spot on! This is my favorite normal/all around lens right now!

Here are some samples

Yes, this is really her eye color!

Notice how creamy the bokeh is

Went with the gritty look on this one

I will be taking some more pictures later on.

No dude, I swear. That is her eye. Took this photo in daylight and only adjusted some exposure,
lil bit of saturation and lil bit of sharpness. That is all.

The photos are nice, but surely she is wearing a contact...?

Unless there is something horrifically wrong with her, she is wearing a contact lens. The outline of the contact is very clearly visible to the right of the iris.

The lens looks great, though! I've almost bought it a couple of times... very tempting.
