First pics with new nifty fifty lens!
« on: February 21, 2012, 10:20:28 AM »
So got new lens delivered today and had to have a play around with it - ladened with dog biscuits I managed to get the mutts to pose for me (sorry to sit for a biscuit!).

Think I am going to have a lot of fun with this lens.   :)

My gawd those are great shots!
The cost in biscuits was well worth it, trust me.  ;)
Proofread carefully to make sure you didn't anything out.

My dogs hate the camera.  They will literally run away when I try to take their pictures.
Great shots!

Looks like you nailed the "dog nose focusing" method!

You now know what a short DOF looks like!  ;)

Good stuff to start with....you'll love it

thanks for all the comments!  I am learning all the time and I am listening (really)

My dogs nrm run miles when I lift a camera but I got new dog biscuits last week which they seem to drool over and will do anything for (unbranded unfortunately) I reckon they may contain some sort of social weed as they become super obedient to get another one.  Quite funny really!

I would say the ones where the eyes are in focus (rather than the nose) are the best.

I like #3 the most.  It's the "You're kidding, right?" look.

Thanks - both these ladies have so much character - the collie thinks she is human, the patterdale is a complete babe in the house but a demon from hell when she meets other small dogs - talk about attitude!

Both are 7 years old but act as if they pups most of the time!

Agree #3 does look like an "are you kidding"  but really I think its more - just give me the sodding biscuit look!!!

Beautiful pics, this is also a nice reminder to focus on the eyes. I have serious issues trying to get pics of my gf's lab with this lens in the same manner. One of the things that helps is changing settings to use the middle dot focus point. Then you can put that dot on the eye of the dog, half press the shutter to focus lock and shoot.
One time, this guy handed me a picture of him, he said,"Here's a picture of me when I was younger." Every picture is of you when you were younger. "Here's a picture of me when I'm older." How'd you pull that off? Lemme see that camera... what's it look like? -Mitch Hedberg
