Water Drops
« on: February 19, 2012, 09:32:12 PM »
These are just so fun to do.  My set up used the kitchen faucet as my drip control.  I actually liked it because I could control the speed of the drips.  I'm focusing more on technique, lighting and settings for now.  I'll work on the ambience, if you will, once the rest is down.

And I think this one is by far my favorite.  Moment of impact!

I was using my ring flash for these.  In the last one, that's what is giving the little white circles in the drop.  Almost looks like a lightbulb hitting the water.

I agree with you on that last one. That is cool and does sort of look like a light bulb.

Went back to shoot some more.  All in all, I think I took at least 500 shots tonight.  Only reason I stopped is my wife came out to the kitchen to ask what the hell I was doing.  When I told her, she said, "you're such a nerd" then asked me to stop for the night because the constant shutter sound was keeping her awake!

Very cool stuff. I'm hoping that if I can stop working long enough I want to try this.

I really like that second set of pics, especially the middle 2 shots.
Did you use flash on any of these? (assuming you had off camera flash I mean)

EDIT: I just read back and seen that you used ring flash for these. My bad.
Can you use that ring flash off camera too? The reason I ask this, is from most of the tutorials I have read (or watched on youtube) suggested bouncing the flash off the background board.  I thought that worked rather well for freezing the action. It's also where I placed tissue for changing colors.  I was just curious about that ring flash because I definitely want one of them now.

Proofread carefully to make sure you didn't anything out.

On the one that I have, there isn't a long cord between the light ring and the control unit.  But I don't see why you couldn't use a remote trigger on it.
