It's a plug in that comes with AE.  It's planar tracking software that lets you track a plane surface (in your case it would be the asphalt) and then import that tracking data back into AE.  Create a null object in AE, paste your Mocha tracking data to it, pick whip your cracked concrete layer to it, and viola:  Broken asphalt.  :) 

I know there are other ways to do it, but Mocha is the only way I know how.  What method did you use?

It was actually shot with tripod, I used wiggle to make it move after I inserted all the effects.

So you precomposed it after the assets were brought in, I get it.

Did you try changing the transfer mode to Screen or Pin Light on the asphalt cracks?
Or... I bet if you reduced the opacity down to about 85% it would really sell the effect.

But never mind all that, it's fun and makes me want to do more AE stuff with my kids.  :)
