Simple Two-Person Dialogue for a Class
« on: February 15, 2012, 03:00:42 PM »
For my Film Production class, we had to shoot a simple two-person dialogue.

Shot it on the t2i with the 50mm f/1.8 and pentax 24mm f/2.8 using magic lantern.

The whole thing is f/2.8 and the iso was 160.

Used a Small Tascam recorder (similar to the H4n) and a Sennheiser Shotgun mic.

Let me know if you think it's funny or not, I'm interested to see what people think.

Really like the simplicity of shots, foud myselft watching the actors more than the shot types which is probably a good thing.
few things:
-maybe play around with some of the shots when the white male enters, you could really shwo the viewer how distrssed he is in the first couple seconds.
-at around 1:16 the sound of the chair is way to loud haha
-at 1:29 theres a bit of a premature cut
-a continutiy erra at 1:40 (goes from hand on forhead to arm on chair)

the day lights saving thing was funny, brought a smile to my face but part of me doesnt want to smile because he's talking about his kid haha

anyways nice shooting, the shots are really clean and nothign distracts from the characters.

Really well done.  For what it's worth to you, I didn't notice Jack's first two comments.  It didn't take me out of the story.  On the other hand, some of the shots where the first guy enters the story could have maybe been cut just a few frames shorter, to pace it a wee bit faster (get the guy into his chair at the table sooner) but that's being nit picky.

Thumbs up.

Yeah, I know the chairs are loud, but that's the way they are at the mall, so I kind of like the realism.

With the cut at 1:29, I'm not sure it can be any cleaner, but I can go back and check. I remember fiddling with it a little and not being able to make it totally clean.

Thanks for the input, keep it coming.

Don't stress over the chairs.  It just adds emphasis that the guy is done with the other guy, and is backing out of the conversation.

In your original post, you asked if it was humorous.  I didn't find it humorous.  That's not a criticism or a complaint, though.  All I'm saying is it seemed more like drama.

Yeah, I guess I have a sick sense of humor. I guess I wanted it to feel like drama till the very end.
