Fish Eye?
« on: February 22, 2012, 03:39:09 PM »
Hey everyone,

Haven't posted on here in quite a while, but none-the-less I was hoping you could help me. I'm currently deciding what sort of fish eye lens I should buy for my t2i. I am really interested in skateboarding and capturing some really cool tricks with it. I was looking at the Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 which is about $300 USD, but if anyone here has any other good ideas/experience with fish eyes please reply.

Thanks alot ;).

Hey Flix

I use the Opteka 6.5mm ƒ3.5 and its pretty sweet. it cost me $280.
Ive been pretty happy with it.
I thought it might be a bit slow, but it seems fast enough.

Cos of the T2i's crop factor, i figured that i wanted the widest lens possible to match the distortion i was use to seeing on my good ol' VX1000 with death lens.

Ps. Joe, i love that pic of the Ambrose!

Here's my first attempt at some long exposure stuff (1 - 2 minute exposures)

Shot with my 6.5mm ƒ3.5 fisheye.

Was pretty stoked for my first go (i did it on NYE so i was awake anyway, good time to do some night stuff  :))

Light on the rocks is ambient light from the campfire.

Questions?

Hey Joseph, now that you've shown me all of those pictures I'm really stoked to get the lens. Is 280 a good price for it? P.S. I love those city pictures you took :). Did you use magic lantern for any of them?

Ahh yeah, I was actually looking at that lens. It DOES look nice, although have you tried to do any filming with it? Is it manual?

I think I paid like $289.99 like 6 months ago. Bought it at the actual B&H store in NYC. Hence the NYC pictures. Get it!
I used Magic Lantern for the ship picture. It's really a must have firmware hack. At least for me!

I don't live in NYC. That was from a trip I made there in September 2011. I used the lens like 2 weeks ago, but I haven't upload them to flickr yet. It's a really fun lens!

I've got the Rokinon 8mm. Such a good lens.

Here's a few photos I shot with it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/scumboxsam/sets/72157627979893478/

Also, here's some videos where I've used the lens.
The interview clips (00:10) -
The Warehouse Sessions

The tree footage (00:48) -
Haydn The Park Keeper

The whole thing -
Vote for Waddle

I don't think the last clip really showcases how good the lens is, because it was shot in a dark environment, but I thought I'd include it anyway.
