Wide angle lens for filming/video
« on: February 04, 2012, 09:45:26 AM »
I've already decided on a zoom wide angle Sigma 10-20mm. Now I'm looking for a prime wide angle. My dilemma is choosing between the canon 20mm 2.8 or canon 24mm 2.8. I'll be doing lots of filming with people and cars. Is it worth buying the 20mm prime even though I would already have a 10-20mm? Anyone with experience on both lens for filming please chime in. Thanks!

Just to add to your decision process, Sigma makes very nice 20mm & 24mm primes, but they're both much faster at f/1.8.

If you're already getting the 10-22mm, a much faster prime would be up next (if it were my list).

(oh, and I've never used either of those Canon primes, so I can't help you there... sorry!)

I just saw today online somewhere Canon is adding IS to it's 24mm and 28mm f2.8's. Could be worth the wait.

The new primes are very expensive... For the price of the new 24mm f/2.8 IS, you could buy 2 of the current 24mm f/2.8 lenses, and a nifty fifty. And pay for shipping on the whole lot.

I'm not sure how successful the new IS primes are going to be, it is going to be interesting, though...
